The long-awaited return of a millennial pop icon

More than a decade after releasing her critically acclaimed, widely beloved debut album Night Time, My Time, American singer-songwriter Sky Ferreira has become a musical enigma bordering on pop myth. Between a string of film appearances and teasing a handful of one-off tracks, the multi-talented model, actor and musician left fans wondering when – or even if – she’d release a follow-up to her iconic debut. Now, 10 years after her last Australian shows – and with that second album rumoured to be nearing release – Ferreira is finally back, and she’s making her Vivid LIVE debut.

A native of Los Angeles with early musical aspirations – she was famously encouraged to take singing lessons by her grandmother’s employer, Michael Jackson – Ferreira scored a recording contract after uploading her songs to MySpace as a teenager, releasing her electropop debut EP As If! in 2011. Her follow-up, 2012’s Ghost, saw the young singer working with acclaimed producer Jon Brion, and yielded the smash Devonté Hynes collaboration, “Everything Is Embarrassing”. Led by the standout single “You’re Not the One”, Ferreira’s debut full-length Night Time, My Time – co-written with future Olivia Rodrigo collaborator Dan Nigro – saw her embracing an eclectic sound that included indie rock, synth pop and acoustic styles. It was hailed by critics as one of the records of the year, and has gone on to become a classic of millennial pop. In the years since, she acted in a range of projects, including David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: The Return and Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, while anticipation for her new music reached fever pitch. She appeared on Charli XCX’s Charli (2019) and released a pair of new singles, “Downhill Lullaby” (2019) and “Don’t Forget” (2022), ahead of her forthcoming – and long, long-awaited – new album, Masochism.

This is a rare chance to catch one of pop music’s most radiant enigmas. One show only – and a performance sure to go down in legend.
