In the community
It’s impossible to imagine Australia without the Sydney Opera House. After 50 years, it is the symbol of modern Australia, the nation’s leading tourism destination, one of the world’s busiest performing arts centres and a community meeting place that belongs to all Australians. The building stands on Bennelong Point, known to the traditional custodians, the Gadigal, as Tubowgule. We honour and raise awareness of that heritage while supporting inclusion, environmental sustainability and accessibility for a better world. In doing so, we recognise that we have a responsibility to lead and inspire positive change.
Accessibility
Our goal at the Sydney Opera House is to provide barrier-free access, making the site, building and the experiences we offer accessible to all. We provide a range of access services, performances and dedicated programs for people with disabilities.
Diversity, inclusion & belonging
For fifty years, we have created space for conversations that matter while opening up the Opera House to more of the community than ever before.
Centre for Creativity
In January 2022, the Opera House opened the Centre for Creativity, a purpose-built home for hands-on creative experiences. The centre is home to our children, families and creative learning program, along with new and expanded programming including STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) and other initiatives.
Sustainability
Sustainability is in our DNA. We have embedded social and environmental sustainability measures aligned with the Global Goals into our organisation-wide planning.
First Nations
The Opera House stands on Bennelong Point, known to the traditional custodians, the Gadigal, as Tubowgule. The Opera House continues this legacy today by embracing and celebrating the culture of First Peoples.
Global Goals
As a cultural icon and symbol of modern Australia, the Opera House has a responsibility to lead and inspire positive change. Together, we have the power to make a difference.
