In the Playhouse

Cinema

Australia, Hong Kong | 1975 | English, Mandarin with English subtitles | Action

A true Ozploitation classic between Australia and Hong Kong, the film mixes stunt-laden set-piece spectacle (including an unforgettable sequence set on Sydney Harbour) with hard-hitting martial arts action.

Nothing can stop him!

One of the key entries in the Ozploitation canon, Brian Trenchard-Smith’s The Man from Hong Kong finds Hong Kong Inspector Fang Sing Leng (Jimmy Wang Yu) flown into Sydney to assist the local authorities in busting an international criminal racket. At the head of the nefarious enterprise: Jack Witton (Australia’s own James Bond, George Lazenby), a moustachioed kingpin whose penthouse fortress will require creative aerial innovation to penetrate.

Presented by Sydney Opera House with Umbrella Entertainment and hosted by Alexei Toliopoulos

ACO: The Four Seasons - A Music Film

The Four Seasons is arguably the most recognisable piece of classical music ever written. This filmed ACO performance, directed by Richard Tognetti, highlights the symbiosis between Vivaldi’s Venice and the Middle East, interspersing Vivaldi’s masterpiece with music by Australian-Egyptian composer and oud virtuoso Joseph Tawadros. This special screening is followed by an insightful conversation with ACO Managing Director Richard Evans and film director Matisse Ruby, plus an audience Q&A.
