The master of contemporary classical returns with a transcendent new performance
One of the most prodigious and widely loved composers of our era, German-born, British-based composer Max Richter has been at the forefront of contemporary classical and post-minimalist music for more than two decades. After a revelatory performance at Vivid LIVE last year, Richter returns for two nights in the Concert Hall where he’ll be joined by the visionary American Contemporary Music Ensemble.
A classically-trained composer who has captivated global audiences with his genre-defying work in post-minimalism, ambient music and the avant-garde, Richter is one of the world’s most-streamed classical artist, a groundbreaking innovator of form, and a tireless human rights advocate. His work includes The Blue Notebooks (2004) – named one of the best classical works of the century by The Guardian – his acclaimed reimagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and the immersive, eight-hour concert work SLEEP, which he has performed in collaboration with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble. Richter’s music has also soundtracked acclaimed films and television series by Martin Scorsese, Denis Villeneuve and many more, and scored leading ballets and stage productions around the world.
His latest album In a Landscape, is a meditation on the present that brings together the electronic and the acoustic, the human and the natural world. It is the composer’s first solo album to be recorded at Studio Richter Mahr, his minimalist, eco-conscious creative retreat in rural Oxfordshire.

American Contemporary Music Ensemble
Artists
Since its founding in 2004, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), led by cellist and artistic director Clarice Jensen, has become a prominent force in American new music. Known for exceptional musicianship and artistic vision, ACME has earned praise from NPR as “contemporary music dynamos” and from Strings reporting “ACME’s absorbing playing pulsed with warm energy. Shared glances and inhales triggered transitions in a flow so seamless it seemed learned in a Jedi temple". In 2015, the ensemble was honored by ASCAP for its “virtuosity, passion, and commitment” to American composers.
ACME has performed at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, BAM, The Kennedy Center, and UCLA’s Royce Hall. The ensemble has also toured worldwide, including performances of Max Richter’s Sleep at iconic locations like the Great Wall of China, Auckland’s piers, Sydney Opera House and many more.

Eryn Jean Norvill is an accomplished Australian actor with over a decade of experience in professional theatre. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, she has also studied at L’Ecole Philippe Gaulier in France and The Groundlings School in Los Angeles. Her theatre credits include The Confessions, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Three Sisters, King Lear, Cyrano de Bergerac, Hamlet, and Top Girls (Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre, Griffin Theatre Company).
Eryn Jean has won multiple awards, including the 2023 Green Room Award for Outstanding Performance, the 2022 Sydney Theatre Award for Best Performance, and the 2015 Sydney Theatre Award for Best Actress. She is also a writer and theatre maker, co-creating A Tiny Chorus and Niche, and serving as dramaturg for The Picture of Dorian Gray and Lord of the Flies.
On television, she’s appeared in The Twelve (Foxtel/Binge), Love Me (Acorn UK/Foxtel/Binge), Preppers (ABC), and Home and Away. Eryn Jean is a co-founder of Safe Theatres Australia, advocating for sustainable and inclusive practices in the arts. She is a proud member of Equity and the Media, Entertainment, and Arts Alliance.

Our foyers will be open 90 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and two hours pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Refreshments will be available for purchase from our theatre bars.
All Sydney Opera House foyers are pram accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators). Pram parking will be available outside the theatres in the Western Foyer.
Getting here
The Sydney Opera House Car Park, operated by Wilson Parking, is open and available to use. Wilson Parking offer discounted parking if you book ahead. Please see the Wilson Parking website for details.
Please check the Transport NSW website for the latest advice and information on travel. You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a six minute walk to the Opera House.
Frequently asked questions
Ticket purchases and collection at our Box Office is discouraged and eTicket or postal delivery methods should be used, wherever possible. However, if you are collecting your tickets from the Box Office, we recommend doing this at least 60 minutes before the event starts. If you have already received your tickets, the venue doors will be open 45 minutes pre-show for Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and 30 minutes pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Please take your seats as soon as you arrive.
If you are late, we will seat you as soon as we can and, where possible, in your allocated seat. However, to reduce movement in the venue as well as minimise disruption to the performance and other patrons, ticketholders may be seated in an allocated latecomer’s seat. Please be aware that some events have lock-out periods. In these cases, latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance. On occasions, this may not be until the interval, or at all where there is no interval.

In accordance with our venue security procedures, Opera House security will be scanning and checking bags under the Monumental Stairs, prior to entering the building. Bags will be scanned by an x-ray machine, and staff will wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling your belongings, such as gloves. Cloaking facilities will be open 60 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and 60 minutes pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. However it is strongly encouraged that you travel lightly to minimise contact and queuing. Any bags larger than an A4 piece of paper will need to be checked into the Cloak Room.
