This is a show where Josh tidies up
Tidying up is not normally the stuff of gripping drama, it wouldn’t be a propulsive narrative for most people but for Josh it’s Everest, a fundamentally impossible task, like trying to defy the moon and control the tides.
Josh’s brain has managed to make him the author and star of hit TV shows (Please Like Me, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay), in this show he tries to work out how to do the small stuff. “One of the biggest struggles in my life is trying to tidy up,” says Josh. But it's not just about tidying, there's also gardening, gophers and a love story. “It’s about how much we’re meant to accept how sh*t we are”.
Written with award-winning playwright, Lally Katz who is best known for The Rabbits (2015), Neighbourhood Watch (2011) and Charlie Mudd (2009). Josh says this collaboration brings a layer of structure, “the show is more complex, deep and emotionally complicated than my previous live shows”.
Known for making his work hilariously relatable and not to shy away from difficult topics, you can expect Let’s Tidy Up to be no different.
Presented by Sydney Opera House and Token Events
Josh ThomasIn this show I’m going to be talking about tidying up. Which doesn’t sound very fun. But I promise it’s going to be very fun.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all. Let’s get lit!
Josh Thomas
After making his mark as an award-winning and hugely-successful stand-up comedian and television panellist, Josh Thomas turned his hand to writing, acting and co-executive producing his own television show for ABC TV, inspired by his life and his comedy, called Please Like Me.
When Participant Media in the US chose to launch its brand-new Pivot television network with Please Like Me and to co-commission a second season with ABC TV, Josh was on his way to becoming an international success story.
He has been awarded by the Australian Academy (AACTA) and the Australian Writers Guild for his writing for Please Like Me, and has been nominated for AACTA and Logie Awards for his performances in the show. In addition, the show itself has won Best Comedy at the AACTA Awards, Most Outstanding Comedy at the Logie Awards and has been nominated as Best Comedy at the International Emmy Awards, Rose d’Or Awards and GLAAD Media Awards. The show has gained critical acclaim across the globe and has been named as one of the best TV shows of year by Entertainment Weekly, The New Yorker, Time, The A.V. Club and the Los Angeles Times.
Following on from the show’s success in both Australia and the US, Please Like Me is now available worldwide, streaming Hulu in the US, Amazon Prime Video in the UK & Ireland, and Netflix in the rest of the world.
Josh is now based in Los Angeles where he has created and stars in Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, available now on Freeform, STAN (Aust) and ABC Spark (Canada). Somewhere amongst all of this, Josh found time to return to the stage, with his international tour of new stand-up show Whoopsie Daisy, his first solo show in six years.
