The long-awaited return of an alt-country star

Singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield has never been hotter. Under her musical moniker Waxahatchee, the Alabama-born indie star released her sixth album Tigers Blood to breathless reviews, with Pitchfork calling the record “a vivid modern classic of folk and Americana.” Now, for the first time in six long years, she’s set to return to the Sydney Opera House for her debut solo performance, bringing her dazzling alt-country sound to the Concert Hall for one show only.

Since her teenage days playing with her twin sister in DIY punk band P.S. Eliot, the golden-voiced Crutchfield has steadily built a dedicated fan base while evolving her sound from lo-fi indie folk to richly textured, country-flavoured Americana. As Waxahatchee, she released the acclaimed albums American Weekend (2012), Cerulean Salt (2013), Ivy Tripp (2015) and Out in the Storm (2017)before breaking through in 2020 with her monumental fifth album Saint Cloud, a heartland rock ’n’ roll masterpiece that yielded the singles ‘Lilacs’ and ‘Fire’. Led by the MJ Lenderman collaboration ‘Right Back To It’, a nod to the classic duets of Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, Waxahatchee’s 2024 album Tigers Blood has been hailed as her best yet, praised by Rolling Stone as "the sound of a master storyteller on a hot streak."

This is Crutchfield’s solo debut at the Sydney Opera House after her performance alongside singer-songwriter – and partner – Kevin Morby in 2018. Don’t miss one of America’s most powerful singer-songwriters at her musical peak.
