Rehearsals commence for GATSBY at The Green Light

The cast and creative team of GATSBY at The Green Light has gathered from around the globe, beginning rehearsals ahead of the production’s world premiere at the Sydney Opera House. From December 16, the Studio will be transformed into The Green Light – a 1920s inspired club where an opulent display of cabaret, variety, and contemporary music takes to the stage.

Musical Director and multiple ARIA-Award winner Kim Moyes, best known for his work as one-half of iconic Australian electronic duo The Presets, brings his electronic music skills to proceedings, offering bold remixes and a curated soundtrack that sets the vibe and the energy of this unmissable experience. Bringing incredible live vocals to the show is ARIA-Award nominated Western Sydney star Odette. Odette and Moyes have also collaborated on a stunning original song created for GATSBY.

Reimagining The Great Gatsby through the prism of cabaret-variety, this concept album riff on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic channels the spirit of Jay Gatsby and his endless pursuit for Daisy. Some of the finest local and international aerialists will defy gravity, with Australian’s Beau Sargent and Elke Uhd in multiple breathtaking solo and duet acts, homegrown aerial duo Zac Smith and Jemma Crump, an extraordinary hair-hang from Scotland’s Miranda Menzies, and the daring German Oscar Kaufmann with his cheeky hat-stand act.

Set inside his club, The Green Light, Gatsby’s troupe of masterful entertainers include remarkably dextrous juggler Florian Brooks (Belgium), sultry burlesque artist Bettie Bombshell (Australia), and electrifying tap-dancer Bayley Graham (Aotearoa/New Zealand), all ensuring the party never stops. An impressive ensemble of dancers – Clayton Church, Erin Gaw, Willa Bell Klemm, Jaimie Nirvana, Tiana Vassallo, Maddi Xuereb and Thomas Young – also act as the club’s waitstaff, serving up delicious cocktails created by acclaimed mixologist Matt Whiley.

Created by Stuart Couzens and Craig Ilott (Caper & Crow) this escapist fantasy is brought to life in collaboration with a world-class creative team: Matt Marshall (Lighting Designer), Lucas Newland (Choreographer), Cassie Bartho (Assistant Choreographer), Renier Jansen van Vuuren (Set Design), and Mason Browne & Rose Jurd (Costume Design).
