Sydney —
This Wednesday 18 June, the Sydney Opera House will host its first-ever Giving Day – 12 hours of fundraising to support free and subsidised programs so that more children and their families can experience the wonder of the Opera House.
A globally recognised icon synonymous with inspiration and imagination, the Opera House belongs to everyone. Giving Day will help the Opera House to reach more of the community by ensuring Aussie kids can experience the positive impact of creativity.
Money raised on Giving Day will fund a number of programs across the year:
- School programs: giving students from across the country the chance to attend performances and workshops at the Opera House for free.
- Digital creative learning: bringing live performances, excursions and digital classroom experiences to children in regional and remote areas.
- Access program for kids with disability: supporting inclusive and sensory-friendly programs designed to break down barriers and ensure every child can participate.
- Family experiences: providing free and low-cost performances, creative workshops and year-round community events so more families can create joyful memories together.
Sydney Opera House CEO, Louise Herron AM, said: “The simple idea that the Opera House was built to serve the community is at the heart of our ambition to become Everyone’s House. This Giving Day, we want to help more kids experience the magic of the Opera House – including students from under-resourced schools, children living with disability and families doing it tough. When children and young people have access to the arts, it helps build confidence, critical thinking and essential life skills. This building, its history and the programs we offer are a dynamic resource of creative learning, but we need your help to do more.”
Sydney Opera House Head of Children, Families and Creative Learning, Tamara Harrison, said: “Giving Day will extend the Opera House’s ambition to create life-changing experiences for kids everywhere. In 2024, more than 360,000 students participated in the Opera House’s creative learning programs onsite and online. This important day of fundraising will help us continue to spark curiosity, nurture creativity and make arts accessible, inclusive and inspiring for kids right across the country.”
All donations will be matched by the Opera House’s generous donors and partners, doubling the impact of individual donations up to a set amount.
Donations can be made on Giving Day, Wednesday 18 June between 8am and 8pm AEST via www.sydneyoperahouse.com/givingday or by calling +61 2 9250 7678.
Thank you to our donors and corporate partners who enable so much of what we do. Special thanks to Major Partner, The Lott for its support of Giving Day.
