Discover the magic behind the curtain with House Play

House Play is a series for kids and families that shows you how to bring your own play to life at home or in school. Follow Ivy and Anthony as they meet experts from our stages - from the playwright, actors and director; to the creative team behind the lights, sound, costumes and sets.

Episode 1: Writing your Script
Travel to Bennelong Point with Anthony and Ivy and meet Playwright, Kirsty for some tips on starting your play where all plays start - with a script!

Episode 2: Acting and Directing
Meet Mansoor, an actor and Stefo, a director and learn all about creating believable characters, projecting your voice and most importantly how to take a curtain call.

Episode 3: Designing your Set & Costumes
Step into the wardrobe for a chat with James, a set and costume designer to find out a bit more about what clothing, props and scenery can add to a story.

Episode 4: Light up your Stage
Head to the Playhouse theatre for a chat with Sian, a lighting designer who explains all of the different ways that light can be used to build atmosphere, create setting and compliment your set.

Episode 5: Exploring Sound Design
Listen up as sound designers Adam and Greta explain the ways that music, sound effect and foley can add atmosphere and help to tell your story.

Episode 6: You’re a Producer!
Anthony and Ivy now experts themselves! They’ve asked lots of questions and now they’re ready to put on their show. Oh no they forgot the audience!! Come along for one last emergency visit back to the Opera House to meet Ali, a producer who knows all about getting people to come and see your show.
