Sydney Philharmonia Choirs 2026 season opens with the virtuoso Chamber Singers and Baroque Orchestra in a glorious program of baroque masterworks: Vivaldi’s Gloria, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, and Bach’s cantata Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen.

PLEASE NOTE: this performance does not take place at Sydney Opera House. This performance takes place at Pier 2/3, Walsh Bay

The most joyful words in sacred music are ‘Glory to God on high!’ and Vivaldi’s Gloria in D matches that joy with unparalleled brilliance and splendour. Even when the mood turns sombre, the music is full of vitality. The ‘Dixit Dominus’ psalm text heads into violent territory: enemies are trod underfoot, kings are shattered, skulls smashed. And the ambitious young Handel gives it exhilarating and theatrical music that shows off the virtuoso skills of any choir that takes it on. In between the fire and extravagance of Vivaldi and Handel, Bach provides exquisite music of poignant contemplation and respite.

Sydney Philharmonia’s Chamber Singers and a period instrument orchestra are conducted by Brett Weymark in this glorious baroque program.

After the performance, join the choristers for a public reception at Pier 2/3 to celebrate the launch the 2026 season.

Presented by Sydney Philharmonia Choirs
