In the Joan Sutherland Theatre

Contemporary Music

Continuing their exhilarating journey from buzzy, post-dubstep duo to explorers of shoegaze, Krautrock and electronic sounds, British quartet Mount Kimbie takes over the Joan Sutherland Theatre in their Vivid LIVE debut.

Hints toward a higher level of consciousness that one might venture into the desert to attain.

The Line of Best Fit

Useful information:

Mind-expanding post-rock and electronica from UK pioneers

One of British music’s most innovative and forward-thinking acts, Mount Kimbie have evolved from a hot young club duo to a four-piece band exploring avant-garde post-rock, shoegaze and dazzling electronica. Following the success of their ambitious, critically acclaimed album, The Sunset Violent, the band is bringing their expansive new sound to the Joan Sutherland Theatre for their Vivid LIVE debut.

Stars of London’s electronic underground in the late aughts, Kai Campos and Dominic Maker parlayed the success of their early EPs into their breakout post-dubstep album, Crooks & Lovers (2010) and the dancefloor-driven Cold Spring Fault Less Youth (2013), their first album for Warp Records. In 2017, they vibed with Krautrock and post-punk on the celebrated Love What Survives, which featured King Krule, Mica Levi and James Blake. Last year, Mount Kimbie became a full four-piece band for The Sunset Violent, an album of driving modern indie, shoegaze and electronic that critics called their best yet. Maker’s Grammy-nominated production work has also been featured on records by SZA, Travis Scott, and Metro Boomin.

As innovative on stage as they are in the studio, Mount Kimbie have developed a formidable live reputation across sold-out international performances and festival headline slots. Seven years on from their last Australian shows, the band is bigger, bolder and more thrillingly ambitious than ever.
