The soulful sound of a home-grown original

She’s a multi-hyphenate musician, a fearless storyteller, and a singer whose soul-stirring voice can transform an audience, effortlessly moving between folk, blues, country, alt-pop and R&B. Now, after the success of her acclaimed latest album NARA, ARIA Award-winning artist Emily Wurramara brings her solo headlining show to the Utzon Room.

A Lutruwita/Tasmania-based artist, activist and proud Warnindhilyagwa woman, Wurramara grew up between Meanjin (Brisbane) and the Northern Territory, writing and singing in both English and Anindilyakwa language. Following her Black Smoke EP in 2016, Wurramara broke through with her 2018 debut Milyakburra, an album steeped in blues, folk and roots sounds that scored her an ARIA nod, an AIR Award, and six Queensland Music Awards. Five years in the making, her long-awaited 2024 follow-up NARA (“nothing” in Anindilyakwa language) added indie, alt-pop, R&B and soul to her exhilarating sonic palette, and was rewarded with the ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album and Film Clip of the Year at the J Awards.

Having last performed on the Forecourt in 2022 in support of Jack Johnson, Wurramara makes her triumphant return to the Sydney Opera House for her first Sydney headline show. It’s sure to be one of Vivid LIVE’s most powerful, emotionally stirring performances.
