About the Artist
HOSSEI
HOSSEI Is a multidisciplinary Australian artist of Persian, Turkish, and Russian ancestry, based in Sydney. His practice spans performance, film, photography, sculpture, costume design, and installation, with a strong focus on the transformative and healing potential of art. HOSSEI creates soft sculptural costumes that integrate into installations and performances, exploring themes of secrecy, the unconscious, theatricality, and mysticism. His work draws from his complex heritage, personal fantasies, and emotional landscapes, often creating surreal scenarios inhabited by real and imagined characters.
HOSSEI holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (First-Class Honours) from Sydney College of the Arts. He was selected for Primavera 2014: Young Australian Artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and has participated in numerous residencies, including Parramatta Artist Studios (2014–2015), Artspace (2016), the PAS Open Digital Residency (2021–2022) and PAS Rydalmere studio from 2023-2025. In 2022, he was the UTS Artist in Residence, working with the Faculty of Design, Architecture, and Building, culminating in the public presentation of his work O in 2023.
His recent projects include THUNDERBLOOM (2023) at West Space, Melbourne—an expansive work incorporating video installation, performances, and public programs. In 2024, he presented ESSSENSSSE at Verge Gallery and U.F.O. with Blacktown Arts Centre. Most recently, he staged THUNDERBLOOM:LIVE at Carriageworks as part of Performance Space’s Liveworks Festival, further expanding his exploration of performance, sculpture, and collective experience. ESSSENSSSE is now on tour regionally with association with Museums & Galleries of NSW.

Please be aware that some events have lock-out periods. In these cases, latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance. On occasions, this may not be until the interval, or at all where there is no interval.
Details of our right to refuse admission can be found in our General Terms and Conditions for Tickets and Events.
In accordance with our venue security procedures, Opera House security will be scanning and checking bags under the Monumental Stairs, prior to entering the building.
